Yellowface: a literary lunch at Bao To Me
On 27 June 2026, Book-A-Table took the table on the road for a literary lunch at Bao To Me in Koramangala. It paired R.F. Kuang's Yellowface with a five-course pan-Asian menu by the restaurant's chef and co-founder, and the conversation moved through the book course by course.

The bookWhy Yellowface
R.F. Kuang's Yellowface (2023) is a sharp satire of publishing. When June Hayward's far more successful friend Athena Liu dies, June takes Athena's unfinished manuscript and publishes it as her own. It raises uncomfortable questions about identity, representation and who gets to tell which stories.
Bao To Me found Book-A-Table on Instagram, and the book was a natural fit for a restaurant built on cross-cultural cooking. Rather than recreating scenes from the novel, the menu took its cue from the book's themes of identity and cultural exchange, drawing on Chinese, Japanese and Himalayan influences.
